Working Days FAQ

A working day is any Monday–Friday that is not a statutory holiday. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and federal or provincial stat holidays are excluded from business day counts.

A typical year has approximately 260 working days (52 weeks × 5 days). After subtracting roughly 10 federal statutory holidays, you get around 250 paid working days per year.

The 10 federal stat holidays are: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30), Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.

Yes — most employees are entitled to statutory holiday pay even if they don't work that day. The calculation varies by province. If you work on a stat holiday, you're typically entitled to premium pay (usually 1.5×) plus a substitute day off.

Take your start date, add the number of working days needed, and skip Saturdays, Sundays, and any stat holidays that fall in the range. This calculator does that automatically for Canadian holidays.
