Time Zone FAQ

Toronto is in the Eastern Time Zone — EST (UTC−5) in winter and EDT (UTC−4) during Daylight Saving Time, which runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard with no daylight saving offset. All time zones are expressed as UTC+ or UTC− offsets. It's the reference point for scheduling across time zones. Canada's zones range from UTC−3.5 (Newfoundland) to UTC−8 (Pacific) in winter.

Most of Canada observes DST — clocks spring forward 1 hour in March and fall back in November. Saskatchewan is the main exception, staying on CST (UTC−6) year-round.

London is typically 5 hours ahead of Toronto. In winter: EST (UTC−5) vs GMT (UTC+0) = 5 hours. In summer both advance to EDT and BST = still 5 hours apart. However, clocks change on different dates, creating brief 4-hour or 6-hour windows each spring and fall.

Canada spans 6 standard time zones: Pacific (PT), Mountain (MT), Central (CT), Eastern (ET), Atlantic (AT), and Newfoundland (NT) — which is a unique 30-minute offset zone at UTC−3.5.
