Grade Calculator FAQ

Multiply each assignment or test grade by its weight (as a decimal), then add them all together. For example, if a test worth 40% scored 85%, it contributes 0.40 × 85 = 34 points to your final grade.

Use our 'What do I need?' calculator. Enter your current grade, the weight of the final exam, and your desired final grade. It will tell you exactly what score you need on the final.

GPA is calculated by assigning points to letter grades (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0), multiplying by course credits, summing all points, and dividing by total credits. Our calculator handles weighted and unweighted GPA.

An unweighted GPA treats all courses equally on a 4.0 scale. A weighted GPA gives extra points for advanced courses (AP, IB, Honours) — typically on a 5.0 scale. Most Canadian universities use a percentage-based system rather than GPA.

Grading scales vary by institution in Canada. Generally: A+ = 90-100%, A = 85-89%, A- = 80-84%, B+ = 77-79%, B = 73-76%, B- = 70-72%, C = 60-69%, D = 50-59%, F = below 50%. Check your school's specific grading scale.
